Military
Hans Dieterick Bauman, his wife Eve Elizabeth Weil, and their four children settled in this region in 1754 during the French and Indian War. Their daughter Anna Maria married Sergeant Sebastian Seybert, and their daughter Sibilla married Colonel Christopher Truby, a noted Pennsylvania Patriot. Their sons, Lieutenant Bernhard Bauman and Captian Heinrich Bauman, served in the Revolutionary War, and both married into the Dreisbach family. Captian Heinrich Bauman's children John Dieter Bauman, Heinrich Bauman, Jr., Anna Maria, wife of Jacob Snyder, and Susanna, wife of Christopher Kern, were born and lived in this vicinity. John Dieter Bauman was a Major in the War of 1812. He built a house here in 1808 and founded Bowmanstown, where he and his wife, Marguerite Newhard, reared a family of eight sons and four daughters.
