The Ohio buckeye is a small to medium-sized tree with a dense, oval to round form and branches that grow quite low. It is one of the first trees to leaf out in the spring. Indians named its fruit “buckeye” because it is dark brown with a large gray spot that resembles the eye of a buck. Its wood can be used for furniture, boxes, flooring, and musical instruments.
