Mount Maude, in Washington’s Entiat Mountains of the North Cascades, is the state’s 15th highest peak and rises in the Glacier Peak Wilderness at the headwaters of the Entiat River. Named by Albert H. Sylvester for Frederick Stanley Maude, it stands in rugged country of ridges, cirques, and alpine basins. Its south side is largely talus with small rocky outcrops, while the steeper northeast side shelters the Entiat Glacier. Popular with climbers as part of a classic multi-peak outing, it offers routes of varying difficulty. The mountain is also geologically diverse, with rock units ranging from Permian and Triassic formations to Cretaceous and Eocene intrusions, cut by numerous faults.
