Ice Box is an 8,112-foot summit in Washington’s Entiat Mountains within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Ranking ninth among Entiat peaks and 147th among Washington’s highest 200, it takes its name from the drainages on either side, where runoff flows east into Ice Creek and west into Box Creek. East of the Cascade crest, it is somewhat drier than peaks farther west, but still receives heavy winter snowfall, with snow lingering into late spring and returning in early fall. Ice Box stands in a rugged North Cascades landscape shaped by tectonic and volcanic forces since the late Eocene and later carved by repeated Pleistocene glaciation.
