James D. Pollock was born on August 27, 1841, at this farm and served the Confederacy during the Civil War in Company F, 7th Virginia Cavalry. He was captured by Union forces during the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1863. After the war, he returned to Cumberland. In 1896, he married Nellie Morris and was the father of 2 sons and 4 daughters. He died near Barton, Maryland, on January 27, 1916.
