Paul Hazen ranks as one of the most prolific sprint car owners in American racing history. Beginning in 1957, he won hundreds of features, numerous track championships, including many at Kokomo Speedway, and sprint car racing's biggest events. Although he did not grow up around racing or attend races, he liked driving fast and decided it would be better to go fast on the track. He spent 10 successful years driving, winning races and capturing track championships. After retiring from driving to focus on owning and developing the car and drivers, he found even greater success and satisfaction. Some of racing's best drove his famed #57 cars, often becoming winners for the first time, including Tony Elliot, Larry Rice, Jeff Gordon, Johnny Parsons Jr, Robbie Stanly, Dave Darland, and Jon Stanbrough.
