Durant was the home of Robert Lee Williams, one of Oklahoma’s foremost citizens. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention, Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court, and Governor from 1915 to 1919. Later he served as a judge on the U.S. District Court and on the U.S. Appeals Court, 10th Circuit, at the time of his death in 1948. He had been president of the Oklahoma Historical Society since 1938.
