Bogert Covered Bridge in Allentown, Pennsylvania, spans the Little Lehigh River on a crossing used since early settlement, where stones in the river were followed by a log bridge in the 1760s and later a plank bridge. Built in 1841–1842, the 145-foot wooden bridge uses Theodore Burr’s truss design with supporting arches. Named for Peter Bogert, whose farm included the site, it is the oldest covered bridge in Lehigh County and among the oldest in the United States. After severe truck damage in 1956 and 1957, public advocacy helped save it from demolition, and it was reconstructed in 1964 for continued use by pedestrians and bicyclists.
