In Fairport Harbor, Ohio, the Finnish Heritage Museum preserves and perpetuates Finnish culture and Finnish-American history through education, collection, preservation, and exhibition. Its holdings include books, documents, records, and artifacts valued for history, biography, genealogy, commerce, and folklore, serving both members and the public. The museum occupies a former town hall, police department, and fire station, giving a historic civic building a new purpose. After the organization acquired the structure, renovations began in fall 2006 to correct structural and other problems. It opened in its restored home on June 30, 2007, becoming a center for safeguarding the community’s Finnish heritage.
