Mount Emmons, also known as Emmons Peak, is a 13,448-foot summit in northeastern Utah’s Duchesne County, within Ashley National Forest and the High Uintas Wilderness. Located near Kings Peak, it stands among Utah’s highest alpine terrain in one of the state’s best-known mountain regions. The mountain was named for geologist Samuel Franklin Emmons, whose name was also given to a Colorado peak. It is distinct from the small community of Mount Emmons near Altamont, far south of the summit. Today, the peak is chiefly recognized as a wilderness mountain in a protected national forest landscape.
