Gilbert Peak rises 13,448 feet in the central Uinta Mountains of northeastern Utah, making it the third highest summit in the state. On the main crest within the High Uintas Wilderness, it stands along the boundary between Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and Ashley National Forest, and between Summit County and Duchesne County. Because it lies on that county line, it is the highest point in Summit County. Gilbert Peak is significant for both its great elevation and its place within one of Utah’s most rugged protected mountain landscapes.
