Frank "Buck" Shaffer came to Porterville in 1953 to serve as Porterville High School band director and became known for music, integrity, inspiration, patriotism, and discipline. Thousands of young people learned from him as both a music educator and an influential teacher. His impact on shaping the community and its recognition in the world was regarded as immeasurable, and Porterville came to be known as "Band Town USA." His dedication to students, love for music, and devotion to God, family, community, and country left a lasting example for young people in the greater Porterville area, emphasizing dedication to youth, the importance of punctuality, and the belief that dreams will come true through belief and effort.
