Blue Ridge National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area in Tulare County, California, in the Sierra Nevada and one of four units in the Hopper Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex established to conserve the California condor. It is part of the cooperatively managed Blue Ridge Wildlife Habitat Area, an 11,000-acre landscape important as a roosting area near historic condor nesting and foraging habitat. Blue Ridge itself covers nearly 900 acres of conifer forest dominated by ponderosa pine and incense cedar. Its significance rests in supporting one of North America’s rarest birds, whose total population in July 2014 was 437 across California, Baja California, and Arizona.
