Rutherfurd Hall, built in 1903, is a National and NJ State Historic Landmark. Designed by architect Whitney Warren as a grand country manor, this sprawling home reflects Tudor and Jacobean influences and was built for Winthrop Rutherfurd, son of Lewis Morris Rutherfurd and Margaret Chanler Stuyvesant, a descendant of Peter Gerard Stuyvesant. Warren also designed New York's Grand Central Station and the New York Yacht Club. The home remained in the family as a seasonal retreat and residence until Lucy Mercer Rutherfurd died in 1949, when it was bequeathed to the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Charity. In 1959, the sisters added a functional residential wing now known as the Mountain Villa School.
