Nature
Mount Stakes is a 3,810-foot peak in California’s Diablo Range on the boundary between Santa Clara and Stanislaus counties. It is the highest point in Stanislaus County and stands just under a mile north of Henry W. Coe State Park. About 22 miles west of Newman and 32 miles southeast of Livermore, it rises in the rugged interior hills east of the San Francisco Bay Area. Although the surrounding ranges are generally dry, the summit receives some winter snow, highlighting the seasonal cold that reaches these higher elevations.
