James Bickerstaff built the house in 1879 on a dirt road that is now Mt. Diablo Blvd. His daughter, Jennie Bickerstaff Rosenberg, lived in the house for 85 years. She was a beloved teacher who rode her horse to school each day. The house was razed in 1964 to build a market at what is now 3615 Mt. Diablo Blvd., and a redwood tree is all that remains of her garden.
