Mount Starr is a 12,835-foot peak on the crest of the Sierra Nevada in northern California, in the John Muir Wilderness on the boundary of Sierra and Inyo national forests. Rising steeply above Little Lakes Valley, it drains west to Golden Creek and east to Rock Creek. Walter Starr Sr. and Allen Chickering made the first recorded ascent on July 16, 1896, when a thunderstorm and crackling electricity forced a hurried descent and inspired the temporary name Electric Peak. The mountain was later named for mountaineer and author Walter A. Starr Jr., or Pete Starr, and the name was officially adopted in 1939 after his death.
