Springdale Cemetery and Mausoleum is the burial place of prominent Peoria figures including Norman Purple, a Peoria attorney and judge appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court in 1846 who compiled the state's general statutes known as the Purple Statutes; Charles Ballance, a pioneer attorney noted for his part in the Peoria French Claims and author of History of Peoria, published in 1870; Martin Kingman, owner of the Kingman Plow Company and an organizer of the Jenney Electric Company and Peoria Saving and Loan Trust Company; John Cleveland Proctor, a philanthropist who built Cottage Hospital, later renamed Proctor Hospital, and Proctor Home and served as first president of First National Bank of Peoria; Lydia Moss Bradley, a wealthy philanthropist who founded and endowed Bradley Polytechnic Institute, later Bradley University, donated land for Bradley Park, and became the first female member of a national bank board; General Isaiah Stillman, a Black Hawk War general who led the Illinois militia in the first armed confrontation against Black Hawk's Sauk Indian Band; Lucie B. Tyng, president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and namesake of Tyng School; and Anastase Robin, a lieutenant in Napoleon's Guard who came here in 1841 after receiving a land patent in Tazewell County, taught French, and whose daughter Margaret married Hiram G. Farrell, the Peoria druggist who created Farrell's Liniment.
