The Witch Head
Nature
The Witch Head is a 7,340-foot mountain of white Navajo Sandstone in Zion National Park, part of the Towers of the Virgin in southwestern Utah. Rising about 3,300 feet above Zion Canyon and the Virgin River, it stands among prominent nearby formations such as The West Temple, The Sundial, Altar of Sacrifice, Meridian Tower, Bee Hive, and the Three Marys. Runoff from the mountain drains toward the Virgin River, linking it to the canyon below. Dan Stih and Ron Raimonde made the first ascent in early March 1997 by the west face on a class 5.10 route. The peak lies in a cold semi-arid climate with low annual rainfall and light winter snowfall.
