Angel Glacier is a hanging glacier on the north face of Mount Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park, Alberta, named in the 19th century for a shape once likened to an angel with outstretched wings. It was formerly much larger and once joined the Cavell Glacier below, but it has retreated and is melting rapidly. Expected to keep receding up the mountain face and possibly disappear, it is part of Mount Edith Cavell’s striking, changing ice landscape. The same face also includes Ghost Glacier, whose partial collapse in August 2012 triggered a glacial lake overflow that washed out a parking lot and trails.
