Mount Edith Cavell rises above the Athabasca and Astoria river valleys in Jasper National Park and is the most prominent peak entirely within Alberta. Renamed in 1916 for British nurse Edith Cavell, after previously being known as Mount Fitzhugh, it became linked to a wartime figure whose execution during the First World War resonated across the British Empire. The mountain is known for Angel Glacier, for trails to Cavell Meadows and Cavell Lake, and for its climbing history, especially on the north face. It has also been connected geologically to Big Rock near Okotoks and appeared on a Canadian one-dollar stamp in 1930.
