Franchère Peak is a 2,805-metre mountain in Jasper National Park's Astoria River valley in Alberta's Canadian Rockies, near Mount Edith Cavell and north of the higher Aquila Mountain. Named in 1917 for French Canadian author and explorer Gabriel Franchère, it honors a participant in John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company venture to Fort Astoria and the writer of the first account of an 1814 journey over Athabasca Pass. Formally adopted in 1935, the name connects the mountain to the upper Athabasca country and related local names such as Tonquin Valley. The peak consists of ancient sedimentary rock later thrust eastward during the Laramide orogeny.
