Nature
Breccia Peak is a prominent mountain in Wyoming’s southern Absaroka Range near Togwotee Pass, on the divide between Jackson Hole and the Wind River valley. Its name comes from the volcanic Absaroka breccia that forms it, and nearby rocks of the Wiggins Formation and a rhyodacite porphyry intrusion help account for its rugged shape, including the steep Breccia Cliffs on the west and north sides. The summit is plateau-like, with gentler grassy slopes to the east and south, and Lost Lake lies nearby. Dominating the local skyline, Breccia Peak is also a relatively accessible Yellowstone-region summit for hiking, climbing, and short backcountry ski runs.
