Pinnacle Buttes is a prominent 11,516-foot mountain in Wyoming’s Absaroka Range, within Shoshone National Forest near Togwotee Pass. Rising steeply nearly 2,900 feet above Brooks Lake Creek in less than two miles, it forms a dramatic backdrop for Brooks Lake and Brooks Lake Lodge and can be seen from far along U.S. Routes 26 and 287. Its runoff feeds tributaries of the Wind River, tying the mountain to the surrounding watershed. With an alpine subarctic climate of snowy winters and cool short summers, it stands out both for its rugged form and for its long-established local name, documented in 1914 and later officially standardized.
