Talimena State Park is a small Oklahoma park in the Ouachita Mountains at the state’s entrance to the Talimena Scenic Drive, about seven miles north of Talihina and twenty miles south of Wister. Though only twenty acres, it serves as a gateway for mountain recreation, offering camping, hiking, biking, and wildlife watching. It also marks the western end of the Ouachita National Recreation Trail, which extends two hundred twenty-three miles to Pinnacle Mountain State Park near Little Rock, Arkansas. The park has drawn notice for low operating costs, survived possible closure during budget debates in 2018, remained open in 2022, and lay in the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse.
