Big Pocono State Park occupies 1,305.6 acres on Camelback Mountain in northeastern Pennsylvania and is known for expansive summit views across eastern Pennsylvania into New Jersey and New York, including the distant Delaware Water Gap. Its origins trace to Henry S. Cattell, who built a stone cabin on the mountaintop in 1908 and left it open as shelter. After the property passed to state ownership, the park opened in 1954 with a scenic summit road. The old cabin still stands, and the park’s main attractions remain its overlooks, hiking and horseback trails, picnic areas, seasonal hunting, and its close connection to the Camelback resort on the north slope.
