On April 19, 1775, Minutemen and militia of Middlesex County opposed British Regulars at the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. Major John Buttrick of Concord, Lieutenant Colonel John Robinson of Westford, and Captain Isaac Davis of Acton led their men to the bridge, which the British Regulars had taken and guarded. The Regulars fired on the Americans, killing Captain Davis and Private Hosmer. The Americans fought back, took the bridge, and forced a British retreat. More Middlesex men then battled British Regulars in a running battle back to Boston.
