Jay Mountain is a 3,600-foot summit in New York’s Adirondack Mountains and the seventy-ninth highest peak in the range. Located in the Jay Mountain Wilderness Area within the towns of Jay and Lewis in Essex County, it is commonly reached by a trail from Jay Mountain Road. The route runs about 3.5 miles to the top, following Jay Mountain Ridge and then rock cairns along a long exposed approach before the true summit. From the summit, there are views toward the High Peaks and the nearby Soda Range. Its wilderness setting and broad ridge route have made it a favored hike beyond the very highest Adirondack summits.
