Redondo Peak is a prominent Jemez Mountains summit within Valles Caldera National Preserve and the range’s second highest peak after Chicoma Mountain. Though especially striking from the south, it can seem less obvious from other directions because it rises from the caldera’s center rather than its rim. Geologically, it is a resurgent dome formed soon after the caldera-forming eruption about 1.25 million years ago, with a summit of older tuff rather than a younger eruptive cone. Forested to the top, it also holds deep cultural importance as the sacred Tewa site Tsiku'mup'in, where a shrine remained in use into the 20th century and now lies under strict protection.
