During World War II, over 292,000 Americans died in defense of their country, and Glenville State College lost 23 students in the war. Those students were Elmer R. Cawthon Jr., August George Kafer, Irvin F. Conley, Kermit C. Fisher, Orlan O. Hatfield, Samual N. Riddle, Taylor B. Keith, Harold P. Cottle, G. H. VanDevender, William S. Lloyd, Edna C. McQuain, Garnett O. Nelson, Howard K. Soper, Samuel T. Wilson, Robert R. Fidler, Joseph Frances Riley, Kenneth D. Boggs, Kenneth S. Starcher, James K. Kendall, Gilbert E. Boone, Woodrow C. Radcliffe, Robert T. Hauman, and David B. Skidmore, who died in places including Louisiana, the South Pacific, France, Italy, Belgium, New Guinea, Germany, Burma, Parris Island, North Africa, southern China, Kentucky, the Philippines, the Atlantic Ocean, and Alabama between 1942 and 1945. The memorial was given by Brigadier General Vorley M. Rexroad, United States Air Force, Retired, and his wife, Ruth Cutlip Rexroad.
