THE STORY
Narrated · Plays hands-free in Travel Mode
Part of the old canal channel remains visible beside the present railroad that replaced it. Lockport, now Platea, was founded in 1839 where a series of 28 locks in two miles lowered boats bound for Erie. The canal was open from 1844 to 1871.
