Garfield Mountain, also known as Mount Garfield, is a multi-peak summit in Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness on the western edge of the Cascade Range within Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Its significance lies in its dramatic relief, rising more than 4,400 feet above the Snoqualmie River’s tributaries in about a mile. This abrupt profile reflects the rugged character of the Alpine Lakes region, with craggy ridges, deep glacial valleys, granite walls, and many mountain lakes. The mountain was shaped by tectonic activity dating to the late Eocene and by repeated Pleistocene glaciation. Its marine west coast climate brings heavy precipitation, snowy winters, avalanche danger, and clearer summers.
