Mansfield Roller Mill in Mansfield, Indiana, on Big Raccoon Creek, traces its history to 1821, when a small log gristmill was built at a practical creekside location with sandstone bedrock, a ford, and ample timber. After passing through several owners, the property was transformed by Jacob Rohm, who rebuilt the mill in 1880 using the more modern Oliver Evans system, added water turbines, and converted it into a late-19th-century roller mill. Commercial milling continued into the 20th century before the property was eventually donated to the state. Restored beginning in 1998, it remains a museum whose still-working water-powered machinery preserves a rare link to Indiana’s rural industrial past.
