Bridgeton Covered Bridge in Bridgeton, Indiana, was a double-span Burr Arch covered bridge built in 1868 by J. J. Daniels over Big Raccoon Creek at the village mill, replacing two earlier wooden bridges that had collapsed. The crossing was central to a settlement that grew around a mill established about 1823, and Bridgeton’s later name reflected the bridge’s importance. The bridge was also tied to the nearby dam, whose concrete form was built in 1913 and 1916. After closing to traffic in 1967 and being altered for pedestrians, the bridge was destroyed by arson in 2005, then rebuilt as a reproduction in 2006.
