Weavers Needle is a prominent rock spire in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix, Arizona, rising about 1,000 feet and reaching 4,555 feet in elevation above the surrounding desert. Formed from tuff, or fused volcanic ash, it is an erosional remnant of a volcanic plug, with a notable split that can make the summit appear double. Named for mountain man Pauline Weaver, it became central to legends of the Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine, including the tale that its shadow points to a rich vein of gold. Despite fire damage in the surrounding landscape in June 2020, it remains one of the range’s best-known landmarks.
