From 1893 to 1898, about 300 people lived at Goldfield during its heyday, when $1,000,000 in gold was mined from the area with Superstition Mtn. in the background. The old Bluebird Mine stood 300 ft. south, dating to the gold rush of 1893, and about a dozen nearby gold mines produced very rich gold and silver ore. Main Street paralleled the present Apache Trail and was lined with gambling houses, saloons, and stores, while the schoolhouse stood where the old house is. Sporadic mining operations since 1950 have produced $2,000,000, and the population is now 8 at an elevation of 2025 ft.
