John Fry entered land on Carpenter's Creek 8 miles north in 1780 on a Treasury Warrant for service in the Revolution, and his land grant was signed in 1783 by Gov. Benj. Harrison. He had fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774, served in the Rockingham Militia of Virginia during the Revolution, and was with Kentuckians when he was killed at the Blue Licks Battle in 1782 at age 28. Four generations of his family owned the land for more than a century.
