Mount Hood Meadows is the largest ski resort on Mount Hood, on the mountain’s southeastern face in northern Oregon. Developed after feasibility studies began in 1964, it opened to skiers in December 1967 with lifts, a day lodge, and a new access road, even as Highway 35 was still being improved for winter travel. Backed by local businessmen and later expanded with newer high-speed lifts, the resort grew into a major day-use destination with alpine and Nordic skiing, night skiing, lessons, rentals, and no on-site lodging. Today it includes 2,150 skiable acres, 87 alpine trails, and 9 miles of Nordic trails across terrain ranging from beginner to expert.
