On this site in 1852, the former Cottage Hotel opened for business under the ownership of Mr. Flint. Later, as part of the Calderwood family holdings, it was sold to Dominico and Maria Costa in 1920. By 1935, William T. Costa, Sr. and Joseph Caplan had established a fruit market in the building, then owned by William and Almina Costa. The market continued there until it was destroyed by fire in 1946, after which the present store was built and was remodeled in 1982 by the Dale Wells Construction Company as a Costa family holding.
