The Cushman Mills area included land claimed in 1887 and granted in 1842. It was part of Townships Bark River from 1842 to 1846, Turnbridge in 1846, and Hebron from 1847 to date. The area included a first school in 1854, a brick school from 1892 to 1962, the Cushman log cabin in 1842, the Cushman house, the site of a blacksmith shop, a dam built in 1842, a sawmill in 1843, a turn shop in 1844, a grist mill, flowing wells, a creamery in the 1880s and 1909, an ice house, sites of a brick yard, clay pit, and sand pit, and Cushman Cemetery, where the first burial was in 1850.
