Desolation Peak
Nature
Desolation Peak is a 13,161-foot mountain in Wyoming’s northern Wind River Range, within the Bridger Wilderness of Bridger-Teton National Forest. Standing west of Rampart Peak and the Continental Divide, it is the state’s 22nd tallest peak. Its high, remote setting places it among a rugged cluster of summits marked by steep terrain, alpine conditions, and difficult approaches. The surrounding Wind River country is also known for serious hazards, including bears, bugs, wildfire, challenging snow, cold nights, and the class 4 and 5 terrain that has led to fatal falls and rockfall accidents over the years.
