Bastion Peak is a 13,500-foot mountain in Wyoming’s Wind River Range whose summit stands on the Continental Divide. Ranked the ninth-highest peak in the range and the tenth-highest in the state, it is one of Wyoming’s loftiest mountains. Part of Gannett Glacier, the largest glacier in the American Rocky Mountains, covers its eastern slopes and gives the peak a pronounced alpine character. A narrow arête runs northeast to the subsidiary summit Bastion Peak-Northeast Peak. Set in the rugged high Winds, the mountain is known for steep cliffs, loose rock, snow, cold, sudden weather shifts, and other hazards, and it remains important as a major summit within a dramatic glaciated landscape.
