Mount Belanger is a 3,109-metre mountain in Jasper National Park, Alberta, standing between the Athabasca and Whirlpool rivers and ranking as the province’s 130th highest peak at 10,200 feet. Its name, dating to 1814, honors André Bélanger, a French Canadian member of the Astoria expedition. After helping establish Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia River, Bélanger was traveling overland toward Montréal with Gabriel Franchère and others when he and Olivier Roy-Lapensée drowned in the Athabasca River. Franchère named the mountain for Bélanger, linking it to early fur-trade and exploration history as well as its notable park setting.
