Mount Kerkeslin, a 2,984-metre peak in Jasper National Park, is the highest summit of the Maligne Range and rises prominently above the Athabasca River valley in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. Visible from the Athabasca Falls lookout, it is a striking feature along a major park travel route. James Hector named the mountain in 1859 during the Palliser expedition, though the name’s origin remains unknown. Its sedimentary rock was laid down in the Cambrian period and later thrust eastward over younger rock during the Laramide orogeny. In a subarctic climate, its waters drain into the Athabasca River below.
