Mount Christie is a 3,103-metre peak in Jasper National Park’s Athabasca River valley, visible from the Icefields Parkway in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. James Hector named it in 1859 for William J. Christie, chief factor at Fort Edmonton when Hector and the Palliser expedition wintered there in 1858–1859, and the name was officially adopted in 1947. Its first recorded ascent came in 1930. The mountain is formed of sedimentary rock deposited from the Precambrian through Jurassic periods and later thrust eastward during the Laramide orogeny. In a subarctic climate, its cold, snowy conditions feed runoff into the Athabasca River.
