Traveler Mountain, in Baxter State Park in Maine, stands within the Penobscot River watershed and ranks as the state's eighth-most prominent mountain. Its slopes drain to the East Branch of the Penobscot both directly and through Trout Brook, Grand Lake Matagamon, Pogy Brook, and Wassataquoik Stream. The mountain includes several subsidiary peaks, among them the Peak of the Ridges, North Traveler Mountain, and South Traveler Mountain, with ridges and routes rising from ponds at its western base toward the summits. Its name came from loggers on the East Branch, who saw the distant peak seem to move with them downstream.
