Saddle Peak
Nature
Saddle Peak rises in the Santa Monica Mountains between Malibu and Calabasas in Southern California. Its summit is reached by the Backbone Trail, with additional access from near Stunt Road and from an informal route on the mountain’s east nose near the Scheuren viewpoint. The peak is valued for wide views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding mountain ridges. Its true summit is the southeastern hummock, which is much degraded, while a second northwestern summit sits within a fenced compound with radio relay towers and is approached by a private road. Sparse upper slopes give way to chaparral, scrub, grass, and oaks below.
