Froze-to-Death Mountain is an 11,755-foot summit in Montana’s Beartooth Mountains and the highest point on the locally named Froze-to-Death Plateau within the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. Surrounded by a stark alpine landscape, with nearby lake and creek bearing the same name, it is known for severe conditions reflected in a name linked to Crow experience. Snow can fall in any season, the broken terrain is hard to cross, and wildlife is sparse. Many climbers pass below the mountain while heading toward Granite Peak, often using the saddle near Prairie View Mountain, but navigation is hazardous and rescue is difficult.
