Wallace H. Dodge (1849-1894) founded the company in 1878 to make wood products, and it moved to this site in 1880. In 1882, it patented a wood split pulley that was revolutionary for standardized, interchangeable parts. Its innovative products have led to advances in power transmission and conveyor technologies.
