Big Spring State Park is a 45-acre Pennsylvania park in Toboyne Township near New Germantown, known for hiking and picnicking at the foot of Conococheague Mountain. Though small and largely for day use, it preserves evidence of the area’s industrial past, including a tannery that operated until 1860, an axe handle factory established in 1871, and ties to the Perry Lumber Railroad. Its most notable historic feature is an unfinished railroad tunnel begun by the Newport and Shermans Valley Railroad in an unsuccessful effort to connect with the Path Valley Railroad. The park took its present form during the Great Depression and formally opened in 1936.
